Ranking in the BRW Fast 100

One of the recent highlights for our team was taking out the 39th spot on the BRW Fast 100 for 2015. We’re not strangers to this list – we placed 80th in 2014 – but achieving such a high rank this year has really left us, well, chuffed.

I chatted with Nic Blair (SF’s director) and Michael Bell (our general manager) to get some insight into what this achievement means for our digital family – and for them personally.

Q: How did you react when you found out we’d ranked 39th?

Nic: Honestly, being at number 39 was kind of unexpected! Moving from Fast Starters last year to Fast 100 this year places us in a list with some great established companies, so I was very pleased.

Michael: “Very pleased” would be an understatement for me! It’s been a dream of mine to have a company make it into the BRW just once in my lifetime. To have it happen twice just makes me ecstatic.


Q: What does the ranking mean for Search Factory?

Nic: It’s a great opportunity for the whole team to be recognised for putting in all the hard work that’s kept us growing at such a fast rate. It also comes with some good PR, which is never a bad thing!

Michael: Yeah, this really puts us on the map with all the other big players in town and elevates our status, which is great. Getting the Search Factory brand out there is always good too.


Q: What about personally? What does the ranking mean for you?

Nic: It’s a great reminder to recognise the achievements of the team so far. We all tend to get caught up in our work, so it’s a nice change to have this little victory reminding us to appreciate everyone’s efforts.

Michael: For me, it’s pretty humbling, but it’s also motivating at the same time. It’s like, “OK, we’ve achieved that… now how do we go one better? What can we do differently?”


Q: What do you think contributed to the leap from 80th to 39th?

Nic: It’s really a result of the work the entire team puts in. Achieving this level of growth simply wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for every team member pitching in and doing their best over the last 12 months. We have a great group of people that put the work in every day to look after our clients and continue to expand the business.

Michael: Absolutely, yeah. This is a sign that all the team’s work over the years has finally started to pay off. We couldn’t achieve the things we do without the talented people we have working together.

While both were too modest to say so, I’d like to point out that this ranking was also a result of the amazing leadership and intelligent management of both Nic and Michael themselves. This “little victory” will no doubt serve as inspiration as we plunge ahead into 2016. And personally, I’m just glad I was able to get some time in with these ridiculously busy gentlemen.
