3 Things you can do Today to Prepare for Author Rank

Since February 2012, there has been a lot of talk in the SEO world about “Author Rank”. One thing that we know for sure is that it is coming and it has been speculated that it will be bigger than Panda and Penguin combined!

Author Rank will be be another way for Google to identify writers and bloggers who are providing quality content, over spammers. It will reward real authors by displaying them higher in the SERP’s by identifying them as an authority figure in a particular industry or niche.

Here are 3 simple things you can do today to prepare for Author Rank!

1. Claim Authorship

If you don’t already have a Google+ profile get one now! Get ahead of the pack and claim authorship by linking your Google+ profile to any website that you write for. This will increase your visibility and CTR in the SERP’s by displaying your Google+ profile picture like this:

2. Use Google+ Regularly

This one could take a bit of getting used to! Google+ is a long way behind in popularity compared to Facebook and Twitter, but this will be a key aspect of growing your Author Rank and you could benefit significantly once it rolls out, by taking action now.
Post your articles to Google+, “+1” other peoples articles, get involved in as many circles and communities as possible and interact with other users on a regular basis.

3. Stick to One Niche

This could also be difficult for some of us who are interested in writing on a number of different topics. Author Rank will rank authors higher if they are sticking to one niche instead of sprawling into two or three (or more!) different niches.
Find your niche, stick to it, become an authority, rank high.

There you have it! 3 ways you can prepare yourself today, and be one step ahead of the competition when Author Rank finally rolls out!
